Edge Hill University

Profile

Overview

Edge Hill University

Edge Hill University’s Ormskirk Campus is a unique and amazing place to study. The 160 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds combine industry standard resources and cutting edge technology to make a truly interactive teaching and learning environment, complemented by 25 acres of sport and leisure facilities, 1,000+ rooms in halls of residence and a welcoming atmosphere where you’ll instantly feel at home.

Edge Hill University celebrated its 125th year in 2010, and is an exceptional place to study for many reasons:

• Shortlisted for UK University of the Year three times in five years (Times Higher Education Awards)
• £130m investment on our award-winning campus over the last decade with a further £220m planned before 2020
• Attractive scholarship packages provide financial support to students throughout their studies
• Guaranteed internships and work placements
• One of England’s top four Universities for graduate employment (HESA, 2010)
• Second in England for personal development and third for assessment and feedback (National Student Survey, 2011)
• Sixth in the UK for Courses and Lecturers (WhatUni.com 2011) • Degrees with professional accreditation and exemptions towards professional awards

Recent developments:

• Student Hub - a £15m facility in the heart of campus, home to the Students’ Union, retail and catering outlets, social spaces and study areas
• Business and Law building – an £8m centre which offers modern seminar rooms, social learning spaces, a law library, hi-tech IT resources and a lecture theatre that doubles as a mock courtroom
• Centre for Performing Arts - provides access to two theatres, dance studios, black box drama studios, rehearsal rooms, a theatre construction workshop, digital sound studio, digital design suite, theatre design studios and a costume construction area
• Faculty of Health - a £14m environmentally-friendly building houses second-to-none clinical skills facilities including ward simulations, operating theatres and robot-style mannequins that can simulate everything from pregnancy to a temperature

Future developments:

Work has begun on exciting £55 million plans to build new community sports facilities and accommodation for students.

The University will build a £15m sports centre and an array of grass and all-weather sports facilities on the land beyond the University's leisure centre, as well as a new entrance, access roads and extra parking.

Also under construction are 384 new en-suite student rooms in six separate blocks immediately to the east of the current sports centre, many of which will be available for the September 2012 intake.

Other facilities:

Our industry standard facilities include a purpose-built sports therapy clinic, TV studio, newsroom, science labs, and impressive IT provision equipped with the latest software. The University library gives you access to thousands of books, journals, online resources and study spaces, ensuring you have the support to succeed.

When it comes to taking time out from your studies, there's a lot to do on campus. If you're serious about sport, you’ll love the 25 acres of modern facilities at Sporting Edge. There's also a great choice of restaurants and cafes on campus, University bar and nightclub, and a range of social seating areas to meet-up, chat and relax. The Venue is the hub of student social life, with DJs, live bands, quizzes and dance nights. The on-site Rose Theatre offers 75 performances a year, showcasing everything from drama and comedy to music, dance and panto, while the Studio Theatre gets in on the act with regular film screenings.
