Profile

Overview

Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK's largest universities, based across two campuses, in one of the UK's biggest student cities.

Sheffield is the fifth biggest city in the UK with over 60,000 students where everything is geared towards you, from independent shops to student bars, and pretty much everything is in walking distance. In a 20-minute bus ride you can be in the middle of the Peak District, one of the most beautiful national parks in the country.

We've invested £100 million in new buildings and facilities over the last five years and we’re continually improving with innovative, flexible and sustainable spaces that enhance the Sheffield Hallam experience.

Our courses give you opportunities to apply your learning to real-world challenges through placements, work experience and live business projects so you graduate with the skills employers want. We have relationships with over 1,000 organisations, including the BBC, Sony, NHS and Rolls-Royce, enabling us to offer over 24,000 placements and internships every year. Students have also worked on unique roles at the Olympic Games, Doc/Fest and Tramlines (Sheffield's city wide music festival).

94% of our students are in work or further study six months after graduating (Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey 2016/17). Every course has a dedicated employability adviser and our careers support has 95% student satisfaction (Life@Sheffield Hallam Survey 2018). Sheffield Hallam received an overall student satisfaction rating of 86% in the 2019 National Student Survey results, which places us in the top 30 universities in the country for student satisfaction.

Sheffield Hallam Student’s Union has over 30 sports clubs and more than 100 societies for you to be part of. So whether you want to compete at the highest sporting level or just join in with a fun society there’s something for everyone.

Teaching quality

Sheffield Hallam University has also been awarded the University of the Year for Teaching Quality in The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020 edtion. We have also achieved a silver award from the government's Teaching Excellence Framework and five stars in the QS Star rating, with top marks in the categories of teaching, employability, facilities, innovation and inclusiveness.
