Wakefield College - A College to be proud of.
Wakefield College has provided education and training to the people of the Wakefield District since 1865, and today is home to some 10,000 part-time and 3,000 full-time students of all nationalities, ages and abilities, studying at all levels, from pre-entry through to Higher Education and professional qualifications.
The College has a leading role to play in the regeneration of the Wakefield District and a vision for state-of–the-art learning facilities for all of its students. Its existing three Campuses are to be replaced with two flagship new builds. The iconic new skillsXchange at Glasshoughton opened in February 2009 and is home to the skills provision previously offered at Whitwood. Plans for the redevelopment of the City Centre Campus in Wakefield are also underway, and will bring a modern, vibrant learning environment - home to general Further Education students, those studying at advanced level in the Sixth Form College and also those studying towards Higher Education qualifications in the College's University Centre - into the heart of Wakefield City itself.
In its most recent Ofsted report, Inspectors said it was 'a pleasure to watch students enjoying and achieving’. They described the College as a place where learners make good progress, develop their confidence and skills, and where students with particular needs are well supported by a wide range of specialist skills and equipment. Among the College's highlighted strengths were the effectiveness and quality of its range of provision, its teaching, training and learning, its achievements, which at many levels are above the national averages and the clear vision provided by College leaders and Governors.
Wakefield is a modern, vibrant College, where students are provided with the knowledge necessary for them to follow their chosen career, and the skills which will give them the edge in the world of employment.
