Study Criminology: A Journey Through the Criminal Justice System
Tuesday 26th March 2024
12:00 - 13:00 GMT
The School of Criminal Justice are going to take you on a journey from the perspective of those who work with young people in the community and in prison! This session will be a great opportunity to understand where studying criminology can take you, as well as provide an insight into the job sector.
We will discuss the way in which youth crime is dealt with in England and Wales, drawing upon our research and work with the youth services in the community. The ultimate goal is for young people to be diverted away from 'traditional' methods of punishment, as this can often only help to stigmatise and marginalise people - limiting their future opportunities.
However, some young have committed crimes that are just too serious for them to not go to prison, and this is where our academic (an ex-prison officer) will discuss his experience of working with young men in a large Young Offenders Institute (YOI) and Category B, local, prison. Don't miss out!
