You're at the Heart of What We Do

We are proud to be student-focused and employer-led which allows us to support your career development from day one. Working closely with our industry experienced lecturers and professional bodies we ensure that you experience a variety topics and hands-on activities, including live client briefs with businesses and preparing business plans and financial analysis.

You are more than just a number at the Business School, with a high lecturer to student ratio we work to ensure that your voice is heard and that you receive the support that best suits you.

Being able to confidently market yourself as you apply for graduate jobs is something we have at the heart of our student experience. We have designed our courses to give you an advantage in preparing for the workplace with employability learning included across all years of our degrees. In addition to on course help, we have a dedicated careers advice team that are always on hand to answer any questions and support you in developing your CV and skills to ensure you’re in the best position when applying for graduate jobs.

The benefit of studying at BNU is that we focus on learning beyond the lecture theatre!

Starting from day one, we work to enhance our students’ career development in a world where many existing management theories and working practices are being disrupted or made irrelevant.

We explore different career paths, and emphasise the importance of flexibility, teamwork and creative solutions to class discussions, group projects and assessments, to help students get ready for working life.

Even during Fresher’s Week, our students roll up their sleeves and respond to a live client brief under time pressure. Many also get the opportunity to work on projects in businesses as part of their degrees.

We treat each student as an individual and they get to know their tutors well. This individual attention also extends to our careers advice. We include modules on employability in all our courses, and students benefit from the close support provided by our careers team.

We have links to a number of sectors to ensure as many interests as possible are covered, areas include health and social care, finance, banking, information technology and non-profit organisations. Whatever your interests and passions for your future career, we endeavour to give you as mush exposure and experience in your chosen field during your university studies.

Both our teaching staff and our student body are industry facing:

  • We liaise with the relevant professional bodies when shaping our courses, so students graduate with the skills, and often selected accreditation, within their field of study.
  • Most of our academic staff come from industry and those links enrich our students’ practical and hands-on learning experience. Our staff are actively involved with industry associations as guest lecturers, conference speakers and content contributors.
  • Guest speakers from industry help align the student experience to business. Throughout their academic life, students hear live stories from individuals in both small and large businesses. This exposure and experience helps them explore different job functions and corporate cultures.

Once you become a part of the Business School you will always be a part of it. We proudly welcome back our alumni for events and talks so you can learn from their experience and see how a BNU degree can help you become a future business success.

We also offer our Alumni many benefits and services including:

  • Alumni gym memberships
  • Library memberships
  • Postgraduate fee discount
  • GLIDE - a European Regional Development Funded Bootcamp for creative entrepreneurs offering a week of free, online specialist workshops. It will give you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of starting your own business, from concept to company to brand growth.
