The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is one of the world’s leading specialist veterinary institutions, renowned for pioneering approaches to teaching, research and cutting edge clinical provision. It is the largest, oldest and only independent veterinary school in the UK. Founded in Camden Town in 1791, it was the driving force behind the establishment of the nation’s veterinary profession. Since then, the College has been at the forefront of theory and practice in the veterinary and allied sciences.
Now spread over two campuses, the College provides approximately 1,600 undergraduate students with the best of both worlds in terms of student experience. Its Camden Campus offers the buzz of being based in the heart of the nation’s capital; while in contrast, the 575 acre Hawkshead site near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire offers a more rural experience. Throughout both campuses, students enjoy a friendly, supportive environment with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and learning.
The RVC currently offers BSc programmes in Biological Sciences, Biological Sciences (Animal Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics) and Bioveterinary Sciences, all with the option of a Certificate in Work-based learning and Research. These are recognised and accredited by the Society of Biology respectively. Our new MSci options in Biological Sciences, Bioveterinary Sciences, Applied Biological Research, Applied Bioveterinary Research and Wild Animal Biology, offer students a more diverse range of qualifications. Our courses received 100% student satisfaction for the quality of the degree course, being ranked 2nd in London and 8th in the UK (National Student Survey 2015).
The Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) degree is fully accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, the American Veterinary Medical Association and Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc. It is one of the only Veterinary Schools in the world which is fully accredited by these 4 governing bodies and means that graduating students can work in almost any continent in the world. The RVC is proud to have been ranked 3rd out of 327 institutions worldwide offering Veterinary Medicine (QS World University rankings 2015), making it the top vet school in the UK and Europe.
Also on offer at undergraduate level are a Foundation Degree and BSc in Veterinary Nursing, both of which are fully accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
