Additional info

Who is our Undergraduate Online Open Day aimed at? Is intended for anyone interested in our undergraduate courses, including students of all ages, parents, careers advisors, and teachers. Although we have no age restrictions we recommend that students attending are in Year 10 and upwards, due to the focus on the day. You will be able to find out about the courses we offer and take a virtual tour of our campuses. Undergraduate Courses featured at our Online Open Information Resource: The three-year BSc Biological Sciences (UCAS Code C100) and BSc Bioveterinary Sciences (UCAS Code D300) is intended for students interested in Animal Science at the interface between the basic biological sciences and clinical practice, and prepares graduates for a wide variety of post-graduate careers related to the animal biological sciences and animal welfare. The five-year BVetMed degree course (UCAS code D100), the four-year Graduate Accelerated BVetMed degree (UCAS code D102) and the six-year combined BVetMed/BSc course (UCAS Code D101), all lead to a degree qualification entitling the holder to practise as a veterinary surgeon. The six-year course is designed for students with a keen interest in science as well as veterinary medicine, and graduates are awarded a BSc degree before completing the BVetMed. The exciting new five-year BVSc degree programme (UCAS code D105) with Aberystwyth University. The Veterinary Gateway course (UCAS Code D190) is a one-year course available to students from non-selective schools who are members of the Widening Participation cohort. Successful completion leads to a place on the five-year BVetMed degree course. The three-year Foundation Degree Veterinary Nursing (UCAS Code D310), and the four year BSc Veterinary Nursing (UCAS Code D313), both provide a strong practical training in essential nursing skills. Staff will be available to give advice and guidance on veterinary nursing and other careers involving working with animals.

Profile

Overview

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is one of the world’s leading specialist veterinary institutions, renowned for pioneering approaches to teaching, research and cutting edge clinical provision. It is the largest, oldest and only independent veterinary school in the UK. Founded in Camden Town in 1791, it was the driving force behind the establishment of the nation’s veterinary profession.Since then, the College has been at the forefront of theory and practice in the veterinary and allied sciences. The RVC has been ranked as number one veterinary school in the UK and Europe through the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2020.

Spread over two campuses, the College provides approximately 1,600 undergraduate students with the best of both worlds in terms of student experience. Its Camden Campus offers the buzz of being based in the heart of the nation’s capital; while in contrast, the 575 acre Hawkshead site near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire offers a more rural experience. Throughout both campuses, students enjoy a friendly, supportive environment with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and learning.

The RVC currently offers BSc programmes in Biological Sciences, Animal Biology, Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics, and Bioveterinary Sciences, all with the option of a Certificate in Work-based learning and Research. These are recognised and accredited by the Royal Society of Biology respectively. Our MSci options in Biological Sciences, Bioveterinary Sciences, Applied Biological Research, Applied Bioveterinary Research and Wild Animal Biology, involves an extensive and in-depth research project in the fourth year.

We offer the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) with an option of an intercalated year, Graduate Accelerated BVetMed, Veterinary Gateway, and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc). All these degrees are fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and is accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education. Our courses have also received full recognition by the UK’s Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and we have a reciprocal arrangement between the RCVS and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc.

On offer at undergraduate level are the FdSc and BSc in Veterinary Nursing, both of which are fully accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Accreditation Committee for Veterinary Nurse Education.
