Profile

Overview

A founding member of the Russell Group, Southampton gives you the opportunity to join our academics and diverse global student community in helping change the world for the better.

Thanks to our research, facilities, experts and connections you’ll have the chance to not only discover more about yourself, but impact lives around the world.

At Southampton, you’ll be accepted for who you are and be supported, respected, listened to and valued - whatever your background and however you identify.

On our campuses, and in our city, you can expect to meet like-minded people with unique stories to tell, who will help you expand your views, feel connected, and think differently. Southampton is not only a place where you’ll achieve fantastic things and learn from leading minds; it’s a place where you can truly belong.

Undergraduate courses

We offer over 350 undergraduate degree programmes, taught by passionate academics informed by the latest discoveries. Explore what we offer and find the right course for you.

In a competitive job market, we know it is important to have the flexibility to personalise and specialise your degree. Many courses can be taken as combined honours, and a variety of interdisciplinary modules are open to all students, allowing you to broaden your studies and access new perspectives. Opportunities to learn a new language, work, or study abroad, give students the chance to explore the wider world while enhancing their prospects.

We also offer a large variety of taught and research based postgraduate courses.

Entry requirements

Course requirements are generally set at AAB or ABB grade at A-level (or equivalent). We offer foundation years if you don’t yet meet entry requirements.

Applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds can sign up to the Access to Southampton (A2S) scheme, which offers special consideration and financial support.

For more information, contact the relevant faculty or the Admissions Team.

Employability

Our strong links with business and industry give you an advantage when it comes to enriching your degree and being distinctive when you apply for jobs.

We offer career coaching – a 12-month personalised development programme of intensive career support – to first-generation students. We also have our online Career Hub, which enables our students and graduates to access online careers tools and year-round, 24-hour support from any location around the world.

Our dedicated Careers and Employability Team provide services including one-on-one careers advice and events like careers fairs to connect students with top employers. The The UoS Internship programme and Year in Employment scheme give you the chance to kick-start your career at university.

We are proud to have been ranked 23rd in professional graduate destination in the UK, with 95% of our graduates moving on to employment or further study within 15 months of graduating (Guardian University Guide, 2022).

Fees and financial support

A breakdown of fees is available on our website. We offer scholarships, bursaries and partial fee waivers to students from lower income households. There is also plenty of flexible part-time work opportunities on campus and in the city. The Students’ Union also offers part-time jobs to students, and volunteering opportunities.
