Additional info

The Open House is an opportunity for prospective students, parents/guardians and advisors to learn about the RVC, the undergraduate courses on offer and application process through a Welcome Presentation and student-led tour of the historic London Campus and/or rural Hertfordshire Campus. RVC support staff will also be available and on-hand at both campuses to answer any questions you may have. The tour of the London Campus, home to the RVC since 1791, will showcase the outstanding teaching facilities, laboratories, Anatomy Museum, select on-site accommodation and student wellbeing spaces. The tour of the Hertfordshire Campus, which stretches over 575 acres, will explore the brand-new Student Learning Centre, hospital and clinical teaching facilities, laboratories, sports centre, select on-site accommodation and student wellbeing spaces. The Open House will enable guests to discover first-hand what life is like as an RVC student. NB: Guests can personalise their visit based on course of interest: The RVC’s London Campus is home to all of the BSc and MSci Biological Sciences Pathways (except the final year of the Animal Biology, Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics programme), the Veterinary Gateway programme, Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) programme and Year 1 of the Graduate Accelerated BVetMed. The RVC’s Hertfordshire Campus is home to all Veterinary Nursing Pathways, the final year of the Animal Biology, Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics programme and the final three years of all Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed & BVSc) Pathways.

Profile

Overview

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is one of the world’s leading specialist veterinary institutions, renowned for pioneering approaches to teaching, research and cutting edge clinical provision. It is the largest, oldest and only independent veterinary school in the UK. Founded in Camden Town in 1791, it was the driving force behind the establishment of the nation’s veterinary profession.Since then, the College has been at the forefront of theory and practice in the veterinary and allied sciences. The RVC has been ranked as number one veterinary school in the UK and Europe through the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2020.

Spread over two campuses, the College provides approximately 1,600 undergraduate students with the best of both worlds in terms of student experience. Its Camden Campus offers the buzz of being based in the heart of the nation’s capital; while in contrast, the 575 acre Hawkshead site near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire offers a more rural experience. Throughout both campuses, students enjoy a friendly, supportive environment with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and learning.

The RVC currently offers BSc programmes in Biological Sciences, Animal Biology, Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics, and Bioveterinary Sciences, all with the option of a Certificate in Work-based learning and Research. These are recognised and accredited by the Royal Society of Biology respectively. Our MSci options in Biological Sciences, Bioveterinary Sciences, Applied Biological Research, Applied Bioveterinary Research and Wild Animal Biology, involves an extensive and in-depth research project in the fourth year.

We offer the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) with an option of an intercalated year, Graduate Accelerated BVetMed, Veterinary Gateway, and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc). All these degrees are fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and is accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education. Our courses have also received full recognition by the UK’s Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and we have a reciprocal arrangement between the RCVS and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council Inc.

On offer at undergraduate level are the FdSc and BSc in Veterinary Nursing, both of which are fully accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Accreditation Committee for Veterinary Nurse Education.
