Learn in state-of the-art facilities

We continue to invest £250m to further enhance the campus experience. Ranked 6th in the UK for facilities (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2025), our industry-standard spaces replicate a real-world working environment, giving you hands-on experience with the same technologies you’ll use in your future career.

We are opening a new medical school in 2026, welcoming international medical students in its initial intake. Hertfordshire Medical School will offer industry-standard facilities designed to reflect real healthcare environments, including immersive labs and a simulated ward equipped with advanced, high-fidelity mannequins and modern critical care technology. Students will also benefit from virtual and augmented reality-enhanced learning.

The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science, which opened in September 2024, includes cutting-edge computing and technology resources, such as a specialist robotics lab, flight simulators, a Formula One car simulator, and a Smart Systems lab. A £2 million wind tunnel places students at the forefront of aerospace education alongside a new high-speed impact tester for modelling ice, hail, and bird strikes. Engineering students access a dedicated Formula Student workshop.

Our wider facilities include an Enterprise Hub, a dedicated Science Building, modern lecture theatres, and a light and sound stage. Its observatory is home to one of the UK’s largest telescopes available to students, as well as a 200-acre environmental field centre. Sports students learn at the Institute of Sport, which features a biomechanics laboratory, human physiology and blood research labs, a sports injury clinic, and an environmental control room.
