So you’re here to study – to build your skills and get the qualification you need to kickstart a rewarding career. But university life is about so much more. You’ll grow as a person, make lifelong friends and enjoy a rich variety of memorable experiences. You’re in for an amazing journey and we’re here to make it as exciting, interesting and rewarding as possible.
No need to rush home after classes, you’ll find plenty of spaces on both campuses to study or relax. If you need to get stuck into some work, you can head over to one of our 24/7 libraries or find a quiet spot to access Canvas, a personalised online learning environment where you can pore over course materials and lecture notes.
When you’re done for the day, hang out in one of our welcoming common rooms – furnished with videogames, pool tables and foosball – pop into one of our many cafes or eateries, or find a sunny spot on our wide open green spaces. You’ve earned it.
Your Students’ Union
You’ll find that many activities revolve around the SU, which runs a bottomless list of popular social events, campaigns on the issues that matter and is home to more than a hundred societies where you can indulge your interests and explore new ones.
Let your hair down
The Forum is the go-to place on campus for club nights and live music, while the Ele House pub next door regularly hosts quizzes and poetry nights if you fancy something a bit quieter. Hatfield itself is a small but busy town with popular pubs, restaurants and high-street shops, while nearby St Albans offers a host of music venues, an arthouse cinema, theatre and famous cathedral (where you’ll graduate in a few years’ time!).
And of course, you’re less than half an hour away from a little place called London which has, quite frankly, everything.
We’re big believers that sport and fitness are for everyone. Complete beginners, part-time participants, competitive amateurs and elite athletes – all are welcome in the HertSquad family.
Our dedicated, multimillion-pound Sports Village features a well-equipped gym, pool, squash, badminton and basketball courts, football pitches and climbing walls. We also have another gym at The Oval, where you can take fitness classes in everything from roller-skating to Zumba.
