The University of South Wales is proud to be one of the most competitively priced accommodation providers in the UK, with Cardiff recently named as the UK’s most affordable student city according to the NatWest Student Living Index 2023.Whether you want to live on campus or in the city, USW will help you feel right at home.
University-owned Halls
If you decide to live in Pontypridd, you can choose to live in halls of residence on campus, which are run directly by USW. Living in halls is a brilliant way to make friends and feel part of the USW family, particularly in your first year. There’s lots going on, and if you study at our Pontypridd campus, you’ll only be a few minutes’ walk from your morning lectures.
Private Halls
If you’d like to live in Cardiff or Newport, you can live in halls, too. The only difference is USW doesn’t own the halls there. Instead, we partner with carefully selected private providers. It’s exactly the same warm welcome that you would receive at any campus. You’ll get the chance to meet tonnes of USW students, plus students from other universities and colleges.
All Cardiff accommodation is located close to our Cardiff campus. If you aren’t studying in Cardiff but want to live in the city, you absolutely can – it’s quick and easy to get to Newport and Pontypridd on public transport.
Newport student village is idyllically situated overlooking the River Usk. And it’s just a five-minute walk from our campus. Fancy heading into Cardiff or Bristol? No problem. With excellent transport links to South Wales and beyond, you’ll always get to where you want to go.
Private Housing
Another option for students is to rent a private house or flat with friends. It’s your own space and you can choose your house mates. But it does come with all the admin of renting a house, and you will likely have to commit to it for a full year. Our students who rent private houses tend to do so from their second year onwards, rather than when they first arrive.
