University of Hertfordshire

Our campuses

We are nestled in the heart of the home counties, just 25 minutes north of London, with excellent transport connections.

Our vibrant campuses will make you feel right at home, whilst providing the space to be yourself. Herts is a campus-based university with a community feel, so there are greater chances to make friendships more easily as you'll meet many people by sharing the same classes and halls.

College Lane will be your main campus if you’re studying creative arts, biosciences, computer science, engineering, English, geography, history, mathematics, media medicine, midwifery, nursing, philosophy, physics, politics, social work or sociology.

Facilities included two Ask Herts Hubs (your one-stop-shop for support services), the new home of physics, engineering and computer science (Spectra Building), the Science Building, Seventy7 bar and The Loft nightclub.

de Havilland will be your main campus if you’re studying accounting and finance, business, economics, education, teaching, law, criminology or sports.

Facilities include Ask Herts de Havilland (where you’ll access your support services), Hertfordshire Sports Village, the Grace Ononiwu Law Court, the Institute of Sport, the Weston Auditorium and the Enterprise Hub (café/bar and study space).

Facilities

We've invested £250 million in cutting-edge facilities and are continually investing in resources and equipment. Our industry-standard facilities, ranked 6th in the UK (Whatuni Student Choice Awards, 2025) simulate the live work environment, ensuring you are career-ready and have access to the same technologies you’ll use in your future career.

In recent years we have opened a new Enterprise Hub building, Science Building, lecture theatre space, and light and sound stage. Our Bayfordbury observatory is one of the UK’s largest telescopes available to students.

The new School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science building, Spectra, is a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility designed to support students, staff and businesses. Within this versatile space, you’ll find experiential learning zones, modelling and simulation labs, research facilities, our Merlin Flight Simulator, an automotive workshop (complete with electric vehicle facility), wind tunnel, welding bay and controls testing suite.

There are two modern Learning Resource Centres, one on each campus, containing hundreds of thousands of books, journals, and digital archives, alongside individual and group study spaces.

Accommodation

Living on campus offers an exciting experience, excellent value for money, and is one of the best ways to make new friends. Student accommodation is available on both our Hatfield campuses (located in the top five safest counties in the UK according to the Office for National Statistics). Everything you need is right on your doorstep – from social spaces and sports facilities to the library and lecture theatres.

With all bills included, you won’t have to worry about rising energy costs. You’ll also have access to 24/7 support from our Resident Assistants, who can help with everything from maintenance requests to wellbeing support. A variety of accessible rooms are available, and we offer a wide range of options and prices to suit every need.

Accommodation is guaranteed for most first-year students if you apply and accept your offer by the deadline, bringing peace of mind as you start your university journey.
