Give me a place where I can grow
We don’t fit the mould and we don’t expect you to either. Whatever success looks like for you, we’ll help you achieve it.
All of our undergraduate students have opportunities to make them stand out from the crowd.
- We get you career-ready, using simulated learning environments like our replica courtroom, TV studio and health suite.
- Many courses offer work placements and the chance to study abroad.
- Learn a foreign language completely free of charge.
- Get involved in local, national and international volunteering opportunities.
Many of our courses are commissioned by employers like the NHS or accredited by professional organisations. So what you do on your course will always reflect what's happening in the industry.
We prepare you for the real world of employment with ongoing careers support from the moment you start, to several years after you finish.
97.5% of Portsmouth graduates are in work or higher education six month after graduation (DLHE, 2017) making us the number one university in the South East and in the top 10% nationally for graduate progression to employment or further study.
We’re one of a select few universities with a Gold rating in the Government-backed Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) – which means our teaching, learning and student outcomes are outstanding.
You’ll be taught by expert lecturers, many of whom have impressive industry experience and contacts. They’ll likely be researching topics that aim to make a significant difference to the world. These includes things like engineering a plastic eating enzyme.
Life at the University of Portsmouth is about so much more than just studying for your course. There are loads of opportunities for you to get involved, try out new things and make connections.
Our Students’ Union is bubbling with young and inspiring leaders who are supported to cultivate their skills and experiences, and motivate other students to do the same. They provide you with access to weird, wonderful and thought-provoking activities and services which broaden your horizons, increase your employability, help you make lifelong friends and support you through student life.
We have a huge range of student-led societies, covering physical activities, culture, politics, faith, fun and much more. Take the stage, play in an orchestra or even present a TV programme in Victory Studios. Whatever your interests, you will find like-minded students to share them with.
Our facilities already include sports halls, outdoor football and rugby pitches, tennis and squash courts, floodlit hockey and 3G pitches. And in 2020 they are going to get even better, with the opening of a new £50 million indoor sports facility, featuring an eight-lane swimming pool, eight-court sports hall, extensive gym with 175 fitness stations, multipurpose studios, climbing wall with bouldering facility and a ski simulator.
You can also access water sports, swimming and running facilities through partnered local sports clubs.

Everything’s close by in Portsmouth. One minute you could be standing on the deck of a historic ship, the next you could be walking down a bustling shopping street, browsing in a gallery or sitting on the beach.
