Best begins with support that lets you push yourself
At Portsmouth you can turn your hopes into goals and amaze yourself. Whatever success looks like for you, we’ll help you achieve it.
Here are a few of the ways we can help you stand out from the crowd and do yourself proud:
- We give you experiences that get you career-ready, using simulated learning environments like our replica courtroom, TV studio, and health and care suite.
- Many courses offer work placements and the chance to study abroad.
- Learn a foreign language completely free of charge.
- Get involved in local, national and international volunteering opportunities.
Around half of our students study on courses which are accredited or validated by professional organisations. And many more of our degrees offer an accelerated route to qualifying with a profession or obtaining chartered status.
We prepare you for the real world of employment with ongoing careers support from the moment you start, to five years after you finish.
94% of Portsmouth graduates are in work or further study (HESA Graduate Outcomes survey 2019) making us a top university in the south east for graduate progression to employment or further study.
For 14 years in a row, we’ve continued to score above the sector average for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey.
We achieved the highest possible rating – Gold – in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). TEF is judged by an independent panel of academics, students and employers. They said we deliver ‘consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for [our] students.’ And that each is ‘of the highest quality found in the UK.’ Come to Portsmouth and you’ll be coming to one of the UK’s top universities for teaching, and one of the top young universities globally.
Life at the University of Portsmouth is about so much more than just studying for your course. Portsmouth is a place to try new things and find your people.
Our Students’ Union is bubbling with young and inspiring leaders who want to help you develop vital skills and have great experiences. They provide you with access to weird, wonderful and thought-provoking activities and services which broaden your horizons, increase your employability, help you make lifelong friends and support you through student life.
We have a huge range of student-led societies, covering physical activities, culture, politics, faith, fun and much more. Take the stage, play in an orchestra or even present a TV programme in Victory Studios. Whatever your interests, you will find like-minded students to share them with.
Our facilities already include sports halls, outdoor football and rugby pitches, tennis and squash courts, floodlit hockey and 3G pitches. And in 2021 they are going to get even better, with the opening of a new £57 million indoor sports facility, featuring an eight-lane swimming pool, eight-court sports hall, extensive gym with 175 fitness stations, multipurpose studios, climbing wall with bouldering facility and a ski simulator.
You can also access water sports, swimming and running facilities through partnered local sports clubs.
Portsmouth isn’t just a great place to study – it’s a great place to live. Pretty beaches and gritty street art, rich in naval history and buzzing with indie start-ups, alive with possibility. With our university woven through the heart of the UK’s only island city, it’s all on your doorstep.
