Lancaster University has been named University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. It has also taken the top spot for Best Campus University and Best University in the North West. Lancaster has been the top university in the North West of England for over a decade and this year rose three places to sixth place in the national league table, securing it a top 10 finish for the second consecutive year and its highest ever ranking. Its sixth-place ranking in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, as well as the winning of the coveted University of the Year award, cements its place as an elite UK university.
The results of the 2017 National Student Survey reveal that 91 per cent of Lancaster University students are satisfied with their course - seven per cent higher than the national average of 84 per cent. According to Times Higher Education, this means that Lancaster is ranked fourth in the UK for student satisfaction, when FE colleges and small or specialist providers are excluded. It is further evidence of the high quality of the student experience at Lancaster and follows closely on the heels of a Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework, which measures teaching quality alongside employment outcomes and programme completion.
In recent years over £500 million has been invested in the campus buildings, facilities and infrastructure with a further £400 million planned over the next five years. The accommodation on campus is highly regarded by students. Lancaster University has been named Best University Halls in the UK at the 2017 National Student Housing Awards, earning this accolade for the seventh time since first entering the survey in 2010. The awards is a measure of student satisfaction that compares peer institutions as well as private providers of student accommodation.
Lancaster is the best in the North West for graduate prospects, according to The Good University Guide. 97% of Lancaster University graduates have gone into work or further study within six months of graduating, and 82% of graduates are in graduate level work or further study.
Lancaster is one of only a small number of leading UK universities to operate a college structure. All students (and staff) join one of our nine colleges. Each college has its own history and traditions, creating a more supportive student environment and opportunities to get involved in a wide range of activities.
